What you need to do if your find yourself in such a situation is minimize damage, if at all possible. Find the source of the flood and try and stem the flow of water as much as possible if not entirely. If you can do so you should be able to minimize damage before it is too late.
If you have the strength and courage to enter into the room or rooms that are flooded, bear in mind that carpets or any other personal possessions can be replaced but you cant. Make sure that the electricity has been cut off, at least to these rooms as there is a definite risk of electrocution if you touch a live wire that is in contact with the flood water.
If at all possible try and remove and rugs that are in the rooms and take them to a dry and safe area. Take into account that these rugs will be totally soaked and will be very heavy. So take care of your back and any other sensitive parts of your body before attempting to lift or drag these rugs out.
